wedding tanner

I have extremely fair skin. I freckle easily and tend to get sunspot/mole things that I really hate, so I try to wear sunscreen whenever I am going to be outside for more than a few minutes. I am pretty much fine with being pale…but…I kind of hate that you can see veins through my skin, and I have a driver’s tan (my left arm is a couple of shades darker than my right). I would really like to even my skin out a bit.

I thought about going to an indoor tanning place, but I am afraid I will just burn or get more freckles. Plus, searching for any info on indoor tanning at all will give you a plethora of cancer warnings, and the last thing I want is melanoma.

I tend to treat all extremes with suspicion, so I don’t trust the sunscreen manufacturers much more than I trust the tanning salons. And sites with foolish hyperbole like Tanning salons are death camps”, well, those I don’t trust at all.

What’s a pale girl to do?

It’s been awhile!

Life is busy.  I am trying to plan my move, our wedding, our Europe trip, and dealing with living away from my parents for the first time. It is stressful at times - I have this guilty feeling about my family, like I haven’t been a good enough daughter/sister, and realistically I think I am probably not that bad but I still feel bad.

It’s too late to get specific, but growing up is complicated. For various reasons I have waited longer than most people to move out, and I am feeling dumb about that. I am feeling guilty for not spending much time with my family or for helping out as much as I should. And I am sort of afraid to move away and not be taken care of (both financially and psychologically) like I am now. Not that I don’t trust my fiance…it is just a big change.

Sleep now, blog later.

I set up an account at Twitter only to realize that I don’t really have any friends to follow or anyone to follow me. I don’t think as many people my age use Twitter. It seems to be more of a professional-level, working person kind of application.

If you would like to be friends with me, here is my feed:

I love it when people mix up arcane with archaic.

fatigue

March 4, 2008 by blogicorn

I am extremely tired today. It isn’t from lack of sleep - I have slept more than usual this past week. It could be from lack of peaceful sleep, as I have been having a lot of dreams. It could also be PMS. I just have a general feeling of yuckiness. I get paranoid about things because of my proximity to serious illness, but I can’t help it :(

Also, I tried giving myself a french manicure, and it looks ugly. I don’t recommend ever trying it, it’s worth the money to get your nails done. However, it is probably useful for doing your own toes.

I don’t feel like moving! But I know I need a shower.

Creepy Site One
When I saw this current version of brides.com, it subconsciously bothered me before I even paid attention to it. Then I stopped to notice the photo. Is it just me or is this a heavily made-up, botoxed 40-year-old marrying her 15-year-old stepson? This picture freaks me out. Totally gets me out of bride mode and into wishing other people would keep their uncomfortable fantasies to themselves mode.

Creepy Site Two

David’s Bridal has a bridal party builder. You make cartoon representations of your wedding party. I made one (below) in which the dye lots didn’t match. I think the people look so scary. This makes me extremely glad that I do not have a wedding party to outfit in David’s Bridal clothes.

avoiding work with other work

A week ago I bought a wedding dress:

watters dress

It was a beautiful dress - I still think it’s a beautiful dress, it is very good quality. And you can’t beat the price. But it made my butt look ginormous. I think my torso is too long to wear a ballgown poof skirt, it is much fuller in real life than the picture indicates. However, if you are trying to cover your butt up, you are a true size 8, and you have a shorter torso, I highly recommend this dress. I also have nothing but praise for Scarlett’s Closet! They are very helpful and friendly.
Buy the Watters & Watters 3064B at Scarlett’s Closet.

I then began a hunt for a Suzanne Ermann dress. They are the most beautiful, exquisite dresses I have seen in my 4 months of dress shopping. I wish I could have found one but they retail for $3000+. I checked with a couple of salons and even the samples were out of my price range.

I was pretty bummed for a day or so…but then I saw an ad on craigslist. I have been keeping an eye out for a Monique Lhuillier this whole time, and when one appeared I had to do it. So I bought the “Claire”, giant flower not included.

The woman I bought it from is a little smaller than I am, so I’m nervous that I might have to diet until May. I’m willing to do it though! We’ll see how it looks when it gets here. Hopefully alterations will be minimal since I went a tiny bit over budget on the gown.

I read an article not long ago on a choice-minimal lifestyle. It means you consciously limit your options, wasting less time deliberating between choices and more time actually DOING stuff instead of spending so much time STRESSING about it. My fiance told me a long time ago that he hated wedding dresses and that I should just pick something. It’s not really that easy, a wedding dress is a pretty big decision. But I am hopeful that this second decision will be better than the first, and that I will be able to make this dress work for me.

I am pretty busy in real life, and I have a couple of ideas for other blogs that I will hopefully get going before too long. They are actually going to be themed! This is my personal amusement space and I plan to keep it as such, so while I hope to keep posting nonsense here, keep your eyes out for more organized sites coming soon.

Anyway, my wedding is happening in May (more details later). I have consequently spent a LOT of time on weddingbee, a very addicting if not always 100% relevant-to-me site (we are having a tiny wedding). They post prolifically about all things bride. One of the posts I saw recently involved a wedding mall in Hong Kong:

Mario is bigger because he just ate the mushroom.

And it got me thinking about quirky theme weddings, and about Nintendo, because I also recently saw these sick cake toppers:

wii topper

Which I think I might want, but who knows at this point?

Now I don’t know that much about Nintendo. I didn’t grow up with it. But I can truly say that I LOVE Animal Crossing, and my fiance is really, really into Nintendo. So although I may not exactly walk down the aisle to Epona’s Song, I think at some point we will have something whimsical involved somewhere (one can never be too vague).

Thus the progression of this post from wedding >> Nintendo wedding >> Nintendo anything.

So I spent some time browsing etsy, and this is the roundup of my favorite random Nintendo stuff.

Men’s FW 2008-09

As usual, style.com has the reports and pictures. I thought Gucci was pretty brilliant. But what got me the most pumped was (predictably) our blue-haired hero and his Damier Graphite.

I got so excited that I cussed, because that is truly hot shit right there. Next winter is going to be awesome! I want to buy all those man bags, with their white handles and beautiful checks. I wanted a Speedy in Damier Azure but I am going to spend the next 5 years* saving for this instead.

*$10/month for 5 years = Speedy.

2008:alleviate

2007 was a year of surprises - sad ones like leukemia, and happy ones like our engagement. I learned how to be a college teacher. I watched an effton of movies. I got addicted to WoW and then quit (my raiding priest, at least. I still play my warlock sometimes). I cut my hair. It was an interesting year.

2008…well, so far:

2008:menstruate. It’s that time.

2008:celebrate. Fireworks.

2008:dominate. New Year, here I come.

and finally, 2008:abbr. Because efficiency is awesome.

PS- CONFESSION…I like to make to-do lists. But, if it so happens that I accomplish something that WASN’T on the list, I add it to the list just so I can immediately cross it off. Like I didn’t have See Blade Runner in the theater on my list of things to do today. But since it happened, I am going to go ahead and add it, already crossed off. It makes me feel good.
